In it’s inaugural year, the award honors an advertising professional under 40.
The Akron Chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF-Akron) invites the community to submit nominations for its inaugural Penny Award. The Penny Award recognizes young professionals, under 40 in the Greater Akron area, who have made outstanding contributions to the local advertising community. Nominations may be submitted at aafakron.com/penny-award/. The deadline is 9/1/2022.
The award pays homage to AAF-Akron’s first president (1945) and charter member, James Penfield (Penny) Seiberling. Akron’s American Advertising Awards were known as the Penny Awards.
The Penny Award Program was established to recognize young professionals who have made outstanding contributions to advertising as well as have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence, and responsibility in areas of social concern.
“The Penny Award is something, as an organization, we are very proud of,” says Garrick Black II, AAF-Akron Vice President. “Our industry’s designers, advertisers, photographers, and a host of other professionals are all around us making a huge difference and transforming what we know as the industry we’re in.”
An AAF-Akron special committee will select the winner among all submissions during a closed session vote in mid September.
Award criteria include:
• Contribution to their company: Must have achieved success in one of the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertising, media, or advertising service.
• Creative ability: Must have shown a consistent, high degree of original thinking in their field
• Contributions to the Community: Should be active in other groups dedicated to human or social welfare in their community.
• Under 40 years of age.
The award will be presented at AAF-Akron’s Annual Meeting on Oct. 20 at The Knight Stage in downtown Akron.
