The Akron Chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF-Akron) held Adchella, it’s 78th annual American Advertising Awards celebration, on Friday, February 24 at The Akron Civic Theatre. The celebration was emceed by AAF-Akron Web Chair/Vice President Garrick R. Black, II and featured a variety of tasting stations sponsored by local restaurants, a gallery of entries, Akron RubberDucks mascot Orbit and a pizza after-party on stage. 250 professionals and students from the Greater Akron, Canton, Kent, Massillon, and Youngstown advertising communities attended.
Of the 282 professional entries submitted for this year’s event, 28 gold and 41 silver ADDYs were awarded to agencies, organizations and individuals, which included the Best of Show, three Judge’s Choice awards, one Mosaic ADDY and one Best Agency Project. There were also 32 student entries which resulted in 7 gold and 11 silver ADDYs, including a Student Best of Show.
Voted by attendees as having the best tasting station, Hibachi Xpress Dino Style won a First Place AdverTaster Award.
Pritt Entertainment Group took home the Best of Show award for its “2022 Open” done for the Seattle Kraken. Giganto won two Judge’s Choice awards for “Missing Chairs” and “Mediocre Golf Sponsorship” done for Royal Docks Brewing Co. One Judge’s Choice was also awarded to Secret Creative Org. for “BurkleHagen Self Promo Zines done for BurkleHagen. A Mosaic ADDY – awarded to the work that exemplifies a spirit of diversity and inclusion – went to Pritt Entertainment Group for “Summit Lake Honoring Commitment” done for Akron Civic Commons. Best Agency Project went to Giganto for “Furry Sandwich” done for Primanti Bros. Sophia Fugate, a student at The University of Akron Myers School of Art, won the Student Best of Show for her “Civic Theatre Brand Identity” entry.
