“I have been privileged to have worked with and learned from Larry Churski and to now have the chance to assume ownership of the company that he led for 27 years. With the help of an experienced and talented staff, I’ll work to continue his and Artists’ legacy of creativity, integrity and dedicated
service,” Knauer said.

Eric Kiker to discuss establishing an identity to stand out from competition

AKRON, OH (September 10, 2010) – “This Speech is Only Half Finished,” a luncheon hosted Tuesday, Sept. 21 by the Akron chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF-Akron), will feature advertising veteran Eric Kiker. Kiker will discuss his agency’s struggle to define itself and provide a proven process for helping public relations, marketing and advertising agencies, executives and freelancers establish their identity and determine who can reap the most benefits from their services.

Eric Kiker is a 20-year advertising and marketing veteran who has worked with a variety of well known companies such as Naked Juice, Atkins, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Janus, Hunter Douglas, Vail and Noodles & Company, and won a number of awards. Despite his credentials, Kiker and his colleagues and agencies – LeeReedy and Xylem Digital – were virtually unknown in the advertising and design industries.

“What do we really stand for?” “What makes us good that could make us great?” “Could we break through to a whole new level?” These contemplative questions may sound like the discussion points from a group therapy session, but in fact, they are the questions Kiker’s agency posed about itself in order to establish a strong identity and stand out from the crowd. Kiker will help others determine their identity so they can get more of whatever they value most – whether its money, prestige, freedom or creativity.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held at Musica in downtown Akron, with catering provided by Urban Eats. Doors open for networking and lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation begins at noon. Valet parking is included.

Attendees can pay online or with cash at the door. The cost is $25 for members, $30 for non-members and $15 for students. RSVP is requested by Friday, Sept. 17 online.

On Thursday, Oct. 14, AAF-Akron will host a mixed social with the Northeast Ohio Craftsman Club. Details will be available soon.

AKRON, OH (June 18, 2010) – Members of The American Advertising Federation of Akron (AAF-Akron) will trade in their business clothes for jeans, t-shirts and tool belts as they partner with Habitat for Humanity of Summit County for a home build project on Friday, June 25. It will be AAF-Akron’s premier community service event.

“It’s important that we step out into the community and do what we can to make a positive impact in our region,” said Tim Klinger of Kleidon & Associates, president of AAF-Akron. “Habitat for Humanity of Summit County is a great organization that does a lot for families in our city and we want to help them build more homes for families in need.”
Volunteers from AAF-Akron will assist with all facets of building a habitat home – from framing walls to hanging drywall, or anything else that is slated for that specific workday. The volunteers will split up into a morning and afternoon session and will be working on a house that a Summit County family will call home by the end of the year.
“We’ve build 145 homes in Summit County,” said Danielle Hupp, program manager for Habitat for Humanity of Summit County. “We love it when professional and civic organizations help us make home ownership possible for more people. It takes both financial and time commitments from the community to build homes for local families, and we appreciate support in whatever form it comes.”

Those interested in volunteering with Habitat should call 330-745-7734 to schedule volunteer opportunities. Those interested in donating to the “A Home of Our Own” campaign, to help build safe, decent and affordable homes for local families, can visit www.HFHSummitCounty.org for details.

First national level recognition for Akron advertising organization

AAF – Akron Wins Two National Club Awards First national level recognition for Akron advertising organization AKRON, OH (May 11, 2010) – The Akron Chapter of The American Advertising Federation (AAF – Akron) wins two national Club Achievement Awards for 2010. AAF – Akron was awarded first place in the Communications category and second place for Club Operations. There are over 220 ad clubs throughout the nation. This was the first year AAF – Akron entered itself in the competition.

“Winning these awards is very exciting for us. Our club has made great strides over the past two years. We have overcome major obstacles. It is enormously gratifying to know that our progress has made an impact with AAF”, said AAF – Akron President Tim Klinger, of Kleidon & Associates.

Judging took place at AAF’s national headquarters in Washington, DC in April. A separate panel of judges is chosen for each category of the competition. Each panel is composed of individuals who have professional expertise in the category that they are judging. Each judge reviews and scores all entries following criteria such as: Outline and relevance of objectives, methods used to achieve objective(s), results of methodology and degree to which the collateral material documents the narrative description of the project or activities.

For the Communications category, AAF – Akron submitted a narrative and various materials, methods and results including its revamped website, press releases, Facebook page, LinkedIn page, Twitter page, event flyers, membership surveys and ADDYs books. The prestige of the award is not the only benefit to the club; AAF – Akron received a cash award sponsored by Crain Communications as part of the win.

The Club Operations award is based on the policies, procedures and leadership development that contribute to the operations and success of a club or federation. The entry was comprised of a narrative describing background, methods and results used to operate the club, as well as examples of communications materials, committee meeting notes, surveys, budget and other related materials.

The Club Achievement Awards are presented annually to ad clubs and federations who display exceptional accomplishments in club operations. AAF honors top ad clubs in eight categories: advertising education, communications, diversity and multicultural initiatives, government relations, club operations, membership development, programs and public service.

“We are thrilled about the awards. For AAF to recognize us on a national level is truly an honor. It confirms that all of our volunteers’ hard work is paying off,” said Leigh Greenfelder of Highland PR, Communications Chair for AAF-Akron. “We are working to provide a great resource for the advertising and marketing community in Greater Akron, and this is validation that our club is indeed a top-tier resource for our students and professionals.”

AAF-Akron will be honored June 12th at the Salute to Achievers Luncheon during the AAF National Convention in Orlando. Klinger will travel to Orlando on behalf of the club to accept both awards.
